Vasectomy

Male Sterilitzation

Vasectomy continues to be the most effective form of male contraception currently available, when men are certain they don’t want to father a child. It entails the cutting of the tubes that carry semen (vas deferens) from the testicle to the urethra.

The procedure usually consists of outpatient surgery performed under local anesthesia by means of a sole incision or opening less than 1cm on the skin of the testicles (scrotum). Once the Vasectomy has been completed, the testicles continue to produce spermatozoids, allowing one to regain fertility, if one so desires, by means of a surgical procedure known as Vasovasostomy (Vasectomy Reversal), involving the reconnection of the vas deferens.

The only noticeable change after a Vasectomy is that the seminal fluid is not as thick, due to the absence of spermatozoids.

When to discuss it as an option?

When one is sure one no longer desires having children.
