Libido and orgasm disorders

Disorders of sexual desire or libido

The loss or absence of sexual desire may present in isolation or associated to other sexual dysfunctions.  Its fundamental causes are psychogenic and hormonal (reduced testosterone, elevated prolactin).  Once the diagnosis has been established, psychotherapy or hormonal treatment can begin together with a series of advice focussed on the recovery of sexual desire.

When to seek consultation?

When there has been a loss of sexual “appetite” or a lack of interest in sexual matters.

Orgasm disorders

The orgasm is the pleasurable sensation perceived in the brain, coinciding with ejaculation.

Orgasm disorders are very uncommon in men.  Their causes may be certain disorders of the nerves which intervene in this function or pathologies of the prostate or the urethra which cause pain, interfering with the orgasm.  In all likelihood, orgasm may be absent or reduced in psychological disorders, with this being currently difficult to diagnose.

The treatment of such disorders is based on trying to resolve adjacent problems, with psychotherapy and with trying out certain medical treatments.
