What does it consist of?
In unblocking the vas deferens which is the last section of the seminal duct. It crosses over the prostate and empties into the urethra.
When is it done?
In cases of obstruction of the ejaculatory ducts through either malformations from birth or due to inflammatory processes, generally of the prostate.
How is it done?
An apparatus called a resectoscope with a loop is introduced into the urethra, which permits the making of cuts on both ends of the ejaculatory ducts. The permeability of same is checked by the injection of a coloured liquid through the vas deferens which is seen exiting the unobstructed ejaculatory ducts.

Emergence of blue liquid through the ejaculatory ducts after an incision in same through the urethra.
How long does it take?
Between 30 and 45 minutes
Are there any complications?
After surgery it is normal to need to wear a urethral catheter for 24 hours and there may be light bleeding.
